Get Ready Student Success Scholarship

The Get Ready Student Success Scholarship is intended to support our students as they pursue their postsecondary pathway after graduating high school. Students who receive the scholarship will also have access to a Success Coach and a network of resources

The scholarship award will range from $1000 – $5000. Amount awarded is contingent upon the availability of funds, number of applications received and the type of pathway students are pursuing.

Application Process

Interested students should complete the Get Ready Student Success Scholarship Application below. They should also FAFSA® Application | Federal Student Aid or MN Dream Act application.

Expectations for receiving the scholarship:

  • Attend award ceremony
  • Participate in virtual modules intended to support postsecondary success
  • Meet with Success Coach at least once per semester
Who is Eligible?

 

  • Scholarship recipients are students who are graduating from the following Get Ready high schools during the spring/summer of 2024:
    • Apollo High School
    • Armstrong High School
    • Brooklyn Center Early College Academy
    • Brooklyn Center High School
    • Como Park Senior High School
    • Cooper Senior High School
    • Edison High School
    • Fridley High School
    • Harding Senior High School
    • Hiawatha Collegiate
    • Highview High School
    • Long Prairie Gray Eagle Senior School
    • Northome High School
    • Roosevelt High School
    • Technical High School
    • TrekNorth High School
  • Earned a high school diploma or GED by summer of 2024
  • Graduated with a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or above
  • Enrolled in Fall 2024 in an accredited (2 or 4-year, or certificate program) in Minnesota

  • Completed the FAFSA or Minnesota Dream Act Application
  • Demonstrate financial need (i.e., Pell qualifying EFC)

Areas of Priority:

  • First generation college students (i.e. parents/guardians do not have a college degree)
  • Black, Indigenous, students of color

Will the scholarship impact my financial aid award?  

Yes, it may impact your financial aid award. The scholarship award will be sent directly to the college or university and they will disabuse the funds.
The scholarship amount will be awarded up to the cost of attendance.

 

Am I still eligible for the scholarship if I am an undocumented student who will graduate from a MN high school, but have attended less than 3 years of high school in Minnesota?

You will not be considered a resident for state financial aid purposes, but can still apply for and potentially receive the Get Ready Student Success Scholarship.

 

Do I have to be enrolled full time in order to qualify for the scholarship?

No, you must be enrolled in either a certificate, 2-year, or 4-year degree program, however you are eligible as long as you are enrolled in at least 3 credits at the time the scholarship disburses.

 

What qualifies as an accredited certification program?

Certification programs: e.g., a program offered by an eligible school and is:

  • at least 12 quarter/8 semester credits or 300 clock hours; and
  • at least eight weeks long
    • Clock hour: A clock hour is defined as a period of time consisting of
      • a 50 to 60-minute class, lecture, or recitation in 60 minutes;
      • a 50 to 60-minute faculty-supervised laboratory, shop training, or internship in 60 minutes; or
      • 60 minutes of preparation in a correspondence course 

What if I cannot attend the Strategies for Success Workshop?

Contact the Get Ready team at getreadyinfo.ohe@state.mn.us to determine appropriate steps.

 

What happens if I have a 2.0 GPA at the time I apply for the scholarship, but it drops below 2.0 afterward?

We will review your eligibility at the time you apply for the scholarship. If your GPA is at least 2.0 when you apply, you will be considered.

 

Is this scholarship renewable?

At this time, the scholarship is not renewable.

 

What happens if I receive the scholarship but don't enroll in college in the fall of 2024?

If you do not enroll in college in the fall of 2024 you will forfeit the Fall scholarship amount. If you enroll in spring 2025, you will receive spring scholarship award.

 

What is a Pell Qualifying EFC?

The EFC from the FAFSA is used to determine if a student qualifies for the federal Pell grant. A student will qualify for Pell Grant if their EFC is between 0 and 6656. When a student completes the MN Dream Act, the MN Office of Higher Education uses the documentation and information submitted to create a proxy EFC which would also serve to inform this scholarship.

 

Can I use this scholarship if I attend a college or university outside of Minnesota?

No, you must be attending a college or university within the state of Minnesota.

 

Am I eligible to apply for this scholarship if I don't attend a Get Ready high school?

No.

 

How are the scholarship award amounts determined?

Scholarship award amounts will range between $1,000 and $5,000. They are determined by the availability of funds, the number of applications received, and the type of pathway a student is pursuing.

 

How many scholarships will be awarded?

We are unable to determine the exact number of recipients until after the scholarship application has closed but we intend to award over $1M.

 

Am I eligible for this scholarship if I am not a first-generation college student or identify as Black, Indigenous, or people of color?

Yes, you are still eligible to apply and receive this scholarship.

 

What am I required to do after I find out I have been selected as a scholarship winner?

  1. Accept award via link
  2. Attend award ceremony
  3. Participate in virtual modules pertaining to postsecondary success
  4. Enroll in at least 3 credits at a MN college or university in fall 2024
  5. Meet with Success Coach at least 1x per fall and spring semester

 

When will I find out if I won a scholarship?

You will be notified by the end of April.
