Equity & Inclusion

Get Ready's racial equity work is in line with Minnesota's Higher Education Attainment Goal, which states that 70% of all Minnesotans age 25-44 will attain a postsecondary certificate or degree by 2025. It is critical that Get Ready, the Office of Higher Education, and other organizations articulate strategies to eliminate racial disparities in education that contribute to inequitable outcomes for students of color (Williams-Wyche, Fergus, & Djurovich, 2016). By partnering with secondary schools to build their capacity to develop racially equitable college and career readiness practices and systems, Get Ready seeks to address the following disparities:

  1. Students of color graduate from high school within four years at rates lower than white students.
  2. Students of color enroll in college at rates lower than white students.
  3. Undergraduates of color enroll primarily at two-year institutions.
  4. Undergraduates of color and English language learners enroll in developmental education at higher rates than white undergraduates.
  5. Undergraduates of color have lower college graduation rates (Williams-Wyche et al., 2016).

Equity & Inclusion is one of Get Ready's five core values. Get Ready will develop its own framework and strategic plan to carry out equitable and inclusive processes and outcomes within and outside of Get Ready.
